origins of the pocketface
Genevieve has come through with a vastly inclusive and very flexible title for those haggard, bleary-eyed expatriates one sees lurking about the seedy bars of southeast asia, attended to by "friendly" hostess: POCKETFACES. This term has become incredibly usefull in this sphere- one can say "We cant hang out here, this is pocketface territory." or "Look at that pocketface, drinking beer at 9 am."
I think the term came from Chicago bar culture but it was all too easily appropriated. Still not sure to whom i refer? Look for Khaki shorts, tucked-in button-up shortsleeve shirts, and pasty legs. They look like theyre just waiting to send a dispatch via wireless or deal with once and for all, in a venomous missive to the BBC, "this whole 'Domino' theory". But theyre really just hanging drinking and sleazing out. Here's to you, Pocketfaces!
