we took the train from nha trang to hoi an 2 days ago. hoi an is a small town outside of danang on the central coast of vietnam. it is absolutely beautiful here, the most beautiful city we've visited by far! the town is situated on the banks of a river and all along the shore there are tiny beautiful cafes and an outdoor market that sells the most luscious produce and spices and custom made clothes and shoes. it's like a gingerbread town, all crumbling french and spanish style architecture. this town reminds me of a mixture of asia, france, and colorado. like a tiny mountain town... i keep thinking how my friend rebecca would love it here.
emerson and i are having clothes made for us, it's pretty cheap. he got a suit and i got a party dress. maybe we'll get all dolled up to go out to a fancy dinner in hanoi--that way people will really try to rip us off.
northern vietnam is definately more wistfully beautiful than southern vietnam.
the last few days it has been grey skies and slighty chilly, (like 70 degrees or so), and it's been a lovely change. we haven't seen a grey day since we left bangkok over a month ago.
this brings me to the issue of the postcards--we have so many postcards! if you don't get one soon in the mail it's because we don't have your address. SO, please, if you suspect that we may not have your address, please please please leave it as a comment on this blog, OR, if you don't (understandably) want your address posted on the web then send it to me in an email at genevieve_eustis@yahoo.com
